About Me

I grew up on a council estate in London's vibrant East End, enjoying my youth playing in bands and immersing myself in rave culture while working in the photographic industry. Over time, I became disillusioned with advertising-driven work, prompting me to embark on extensive travels throughout Asia, particularly India. My father was Anglo-Indian, fueling my deep desire to connect with and understand Asian cultures, which subsequently sparked my interest in spirituality. This journey led me to explore meditation, prayer, and theology, culminating in earning a Baccalaureate in Philosophy from a college in Dublin.

My academic journey continued with a BA in Psychosocial Studies and a PhD in Social Psychology from Loughborough University, where my doctoral thesis focused on "Narrative, disclosure, and psychophysiology: A mixed-methods exploration of emotion." Concurrently, I undertook formal counselling and psychotherapy training at the Sherwood Training Institute in Nottingham. Following my PhD, I held lecturer roles at the University of Nottingham, delivering MA Counselling courses, and then at the University of East London for approximately 17 years, teaching modules within Psychosocial Studies. Currently, I lecture at the University of the West of England, teaching courses on person-centred counselling skills, psychodynamic counselling skills, and interpersonal psychology.

Throughout my career, I've actively engaged in research, authoring several books and academic papers focusing on psychotherapy, emotion, mental health, surveillance, and the influence of social media. I have published five books, including "Understanding Mental Health Apps." My first book, "Social Psychology of Emotion," published by Sage, was co-authored with a close friend. We further expanded upon these ideas in "Emotion in the Digital Age" published by Routledge.

While I have a deep passion for research and teaching, I remain particularly committed to listening to and learning from people's stories, journeys, and personal experiences. I greatly value the insights I gain from working closely with diverse individuals and hope my expertise contributes positively to their pursuit of more fulfilling lives.

If you feel you could benefit from therapy, I warmly welcome the opportunity to hear about your life journey. Whether your experiences stem from formal education or the "University of Life," I am dedicated to supporting individuals from all walks of life.
